Thank you for booking a visit. Bring this page and your child, tick as you go, and ask every question on it. We would rather you leave with answers than with doubts.
1 What to bring
- This checklist and a pen
- Your booking confirmation
- Your child's latest report card (copy)
- Birth certificate (copy), in case you start the admission process the same day
- A note of any allergies, regular medicines or diet needs to discuss
- One question your child has prepared
- Water and snacks for the drive; address saved offline
2 What to see
- Classrooms: a class in session, seating and boards
- Hostels: the dorm your child would use, how many share it, the warden's room, washrooms, and entry control (separate hostels for boys and girls)
- Mess: the 700-seat dining hall, kitchen, drinking water and the weekly menu
- Infirmary: the 24/7 in-house infirmary with nurses, beds and night arrangements
- Sports: grounds and indoor spaces, and which games are played daily
- Labs and library: the labs your child will use and the library of 35,000+ books
- People: how students and staff talk to each other
3 Questions to ask
Routine
- What does a weekday look like, from wake-up to lights out?
- How are weekends and evening study spent?
Food
- How many meals and snacks a day? Veg and non-veg options?
- How are allergies and special diets handled?
Care
- Who checks on a child who feels unwell at night?
- How is homesickness handled in the first weeks?
- When is the counsellor on campus?
Safety
- Who is on duty in the hostel at night, and how often are rounds done?
- How are bullying and complaints handled, and how fast are parents told?
Academics
- How is evening study supervised, and what help does a child who falls behind get?
- For Class XI-XII: Science or Commerce, and how is the choice made?
Communication with parents
- When can my child call home? On which days can parents visit?
- How often do progress reports and well-being updates reach us?
4 After the visit
- Ask your child what they liked and what worried them, before sharing your view
- Write down anything still to clarify while it is fresh
